ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR SAINT CATHERINE'S COLLEGE
Year 8 Pupils In the case of the school being over-subscribed the Board of Governors has determined that pupils will be accepted according to the following criteria and in the order indicated.
(These criteria will also be used for the purpose of selecting between applicants to Year 8 after the beginning of the school year where the number of late applicants is greater than the number of vacant places available). In selecting children for admission, children resident in Northern Ireland at the time of their proposed admission to the school will be selected before any child not so resident.
- A. BASIC CRITERIA
- (1) Parents must be in agreement with the aims and philosophy of the school.
- B. OTHER CRITERIA
- (1) Sisters/half sisters of pupils, present and past.
- (2) Daughters/Wards of members of the school staff.
- (3) Pupils who attend any of the schools in the Parish of Armagh..
- (4) Applicants who are the eldest female child in the family.
- (5) Pupils of the following primary schools viz:

- (6) Pupils whose mother attended the school.
- (7) Other Children.
In the event of over-subscription within any of the above criteria the following sub-criteria will be applied to determine which children should be admitted. The criteria will be applied in the order indicated:
i. i. Pupils who have special circumstances (medical, social or security). In the case of Pupils for whom special circumstances apply, the Board of Governors will determine the merits of individual cases and may offer a place without regard to criteria B1-B7. Written evidence will be required to support any such requests and must be given on or attached to the Transfer Report Form. ii. Pupils whose parents have indicated on the Transfer Report Form a clear commitment to the aims and ethos of Saint Catherine's College and a stated preference to have their daughter educated in this school. iii. Pupils who live nearest the school as measured as 'the crow flies' on an Ordnance Survey map.
NOTES: 1. Full responsibility rests with Parents/Guardians to provide sufficient details at the time of application to allow the admissions criteria to be fairly administered. 2. It is expected that an application to attend Saint Catherine's will indicate that there is an acceptance of all school regulations. 3. Inaccurate or misleading information provided on or attached to an application may prejudice an offer or a place and may lead to the withdrawal of a place awarded to an applicant who has thereby gained an improper advantage.
ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR YEARS 9-14 The Board of Governors has determined that the following criteria shall be applied in the order set down below to all pupils seeking admission to Years 9 - 14.
- A. BASIC CRITERIA
- 1. A pupil will be considered for enrolment in Saint Catherine's college provided that the school will not exceed its enrolment number as previously determined by the Department of Education.
- 2. A pupil may be accepted into the school provided that this would not prejudice the efficient use of the school's resources.
- 3. The lodging of an application is interpreted by the Board of Governors as an indication that the parents and the child concerned accept and are in agreement with the ethos, philosophy, aims, policies and regulations of the school including any code of conduct or discipline policy of the school. Information in relation to this may be obtained from the school.
- B. OTHER CRITERIA
- (1) Sisters/half sisters of pupils, present and past.
- (2) Daughters/Wards of members of the school staff.
- (3) Pupils whose mothers attended the school, or its predecessors, the Convent Grammar or the Convent Intermediate School.

The following criteria applies to pupils seeking admission to Year 13 only:-
- To study at Advanced Level in Saint Catherine's College pupils must have achieved SIX GCSE passes at Grade C or above.
- To gain a place on an AVCE Business/AVCE Advanced Health and Social Care pupils must have achieved either FIVE GCSE passes at Grade C or above or a VCE Intermediate with a personal recommendation from the relevant course tutor..
- ¨ To gain a place on the VCE Intermediate Health and Social Care Programme pupils must have achieved a GCSE score of 11+ points in their five best scoring subjects.
Admissions Criteria for pupils transferring to the Irish Medium (Co-educational) Unit, Saint Catherine's College, henceforth known as Coláiste Chaitríona, Ard Mhacha. In the case of Coláiste Chaitríona being over-subscribed the Board of Governors has determined that pupils will be accepted according to the following criteria and in the order indicated. In selecting children for admission, children resident in Northern Ireland at the time of their proposed admission to the school will be selected before any child not so resident.
- 1. Pupils must have had their primary education through the medium of Irish.
- 2. Preference will be given to pupils from the following schools (not in any order of priority):
- Bunscoil Ard Mhacha
- Gaelscoil Uí Neíll
- Bunscoil An Iuír
- 3. Pupils who live nearest to the school measured as 'the crow flies' on an Ordnance Survey map.
Criterion 3 will also be used to select pupils should over-subscription occur within criterion 2.
