SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENT: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

(1) Assessment opportunities planned and delivered by class teachers are an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Classroom based assessment opportunities along with carefully planned homework enables the professional teacher to:

  • Monitor the quality of pupil learning;
  • Evaluate the quality of teaching strategies employed;
  • Identify and remedy weaknesses;
  • Identify and challenge gifted pupils.

(2) TYPES OF SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENT
The term assessment opportunities should not be narrowly interpreted. Pupils in Saint Catherine's College will be exposed to many assessment type situations. The following list, though not exhaustive, indicates to parents and pupils the range of assessment tasks the pupil might be asked to complete.
