The P.E. Department is comprised of five P.E. staff. One teaches only P.E. while the other four teach both P.E and one or more other subjects. Three of those staff are female and two male.

Irish medium P.E is taught with male and female staff teaching as a team.

G.C.S.E P.E is offered to all students.

The P.E. Department operates in both the Main School building and the Barat building. Inside facilities (two gym/assembly halls) and outside facilities (3 hockey pitches/athletics tracks, six netball courts, a basketball court and six tennis courts) are shared by the P.E. staff and Coaches. Use is also made of the grass playing surface at Cathedral Road Recreation Centre for after school practices and matches.

The P.E. Programmes of Study are delivered through the Key Stage 3 and 4 Curriculum and GCSE P.E. is offered to Key Stage 4 students.

The extra-curricular P.E. Programme is extensive and offers Gaelic Football, Netball, Hockey, Basketball, Camogie, Swimming, Tennis, Athletics, Golf and Cross-Country. Teams compete in all relevant District and Ulster competitions, leagues and tournaments.

The school also has a high profile in the local community, taking part in area swimming galas, the Armagh Road Race, cross community ventures and local coaching courses. Many of our pupils participate in local clubs and teams, playing, coaching and administrating.

As a Department we aim to support the all-round development of a healthy lifestyle and to promote the successful community involvement of our students.

Many of our students play for local clubs and coach or administrate at various levels. We also have a close relationship with our past P.E students many of whom regularly assist with coaching, refereeing and general duties.

We are particularly proud of our current status as ‘Irish News’ school of the Year for our grassroots development of Gaelic games, our successful Northern Ireland soccer champions, our year 8 Ulster tennis finalists and our first Ulster Camogie All-star. These National awards added to our many District successes are evidence of a very industrious period within this Department.
