All teachers who teach Irish do so in specially designated rooms, two of which are complete with P.A.L.E. systems for listening skill areas, both in Barat and in the Main School building. All rooms have been equiped for C2K.

The study of Irish is compulsory in Key Stage 3, by the end of which pupils make a choice between languages. All students take three classes of Irish .

Results are excellent at GCSE level where pupils are entered at the appropriate tier. Many pupils choose to continue to pursue their interest in Irish to AS and A2 level, where again results are excellent, enabling students to obtain high grades and pursue a wide range of higher education courses.

Students from Year 8 to Upper Sixth are encouraged to attend residential courses in the Donegal Gaeltacht and participate in Feiseanna, Gael Linn sponsored competitions such as Tráth na gCeist and Abair. They also attend Irish language events locally and at venues in Belfast and Dublin. Students studying Irish can avail of a well stocked Library of fiction and non fiction books, the Irish language newspapers Lá and Foinse and the Irish language sections from the Irish Times.

With the opening of the Irish Medium Post Primary provision new opportunities have been provided for students studying Irish as a second language. A very effective system of interaction between the Irish Department and the Irish Medium Unit has been established.
