Within the Science Department, there are currently ten full time teachers, and two technicians. There are three specialists in Physics, two in Chemistry and one in Biology and four Biochemists. We have eight laboratories, two in the Barat Building and six in the Main Building.A member of the Physics Department participates in the Summer Literacy Scheme, focusing on the development of ICT skills for the Year 8 intake.General Science is taught to Years 8 and 9, specialising in the three separate sciences from Year 10 onwards. Key Stage 3 pupils with special needs receive extra help through the peer tutoring scheme, operated by Year 13 students. At the end of Key Stage 3, pupils are entered for the statutory tests at the appropriate tier. Double Award and Single Award modular courses are offered at Key Stage 4.In Sixth form, Biology, Chemistry and Physics are offered at AS and A2 level, with a considerable uptake in all three subject areas.Extra-curricular activities include a weekly Science Club for Year 8 pupils, where project work and investigations are undertaken. This year a group will be entered for the ‘Young Scientist of the Year’ award.
