RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The RE Department in St. Catherine’s College comprises of four full time teachers; three of whom teach to ‘A’ Level.

RE in St. Catherine’s College is designed to be a lively and imaginative subject.
This is reflected in our teaching methods which include:
art, music, drama, personal stories, visits, meditations, visiting speakers and retreats.

At St. Catherine’s College, we believe that RE has a major contribution to make to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

We encourage our pupils to openly discuss ideas, beliefs, values and doubts in an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness. We aim to help our young people develop sensitivity and to understand more of the importance of religion in today’s world.

We encourage our young people to become aware of the needs of others in the local and world-wide community. We actively promote fundraising for various charities, including MS, Trócaire Lourdes and our latest project, HUG [Help Uganda GroSt Catherine’s College students presented a cheque for £5,294 to Gemma McCourt, Marketing Officer for Trócaire NI. Gemma Awarded the top fundraisers with certificates as well as a special prize of a computer which had been donated by Dell. This was in acknowledgement of the school’s fundraising efforts for Trócaire over the years. The focus group for the school’s 2009 campaign was Year 8 and the top fundraisers in each Year 8 Form Class and other year groups are pictured.
