In the Art and Design Department we have two full time teachers. Art and Design is taught to all year groups from Year 8 through to Advanced level. Moving Image Arts is taught at Advanced Level. When looking at each Key Stage it is important to ensure that all pupils regardless of ability cover the required areas. Our schemes are aimed to consolidate and extend the experiences gained by pupils in each Key Stage. We will ensure that each pupil covers the matters, skills and processes which are suited to their ability, so that individual potential may be realised. Pupils should develop their ability to express their work in creative, imaginative and considered ways to produce mainly visual and tactile outcomes in both two and three dimensions. In realising their thoughts, ideas and feelings, they should demonstrate an appropriate and competent use of visual elements, media, materials, tools, techniques, processes and technology. Pupils should demonstrate that they can evaluate critically their own work and that of artists, designers and craft workers, within a broad contextual and cultural framework and understand that this is an important part of the creative process. Within our Department we aim to encourage continuity between Key Stages by emphasising the fundamental importance of materials, media and processes. Assessment should be viewed as an effective part of the teaching and learning process. Teachers are encouraged to take advantage of assessment feedback in such a way as to inform future teaching and to inculcate self-assessment techniques in the pupils. GCSE students will complete a portfolio of work, culminating in a 2D and 3D final outcome worth 60%. They will also produce an externally set assignment in year 12 worth 40%.GCE AS students will complete a portfolio of work which should reflect a broad and explorative range of materials and processes, culminating in a final outcome, worth 60%. They will also produce an ESA worth 40%.GCE A2 students will continue to develop their skills, creating a portfolio of work which is closely linked with the work of an artist or designer. This work is worth 60%, they will also produce an ESA worth 40%.GCE AS/A2 Moving Image Arts is an exciting and challenging subject which gives students who are interested in film, animation and/or television the opportunity to develop practical skills in the areas of filming, lighting, editing and sound as well as management of equipment, pre-production notes and crew.GCE Moving Image Arts is 70% coursework building a portfolio of work to support a 5min film/animation at AS and a 7min film/animation at A2. Both AS and A2 have an online exam which is worth 30%
