In Technology and Design our pupils learn about product design, manufacturing processes and control systems, as well as how to use a wide variety of tools and equipment safely.

Our pupils also develop skills that are useful to a wide range of situations and careers such as:

• Ability to work under pressure and deadlines
• Good planning and organisation
• Good judgement and reasoning
• Ability to work on your own
• Ability to work and co-operate with others
• Numeracy
• Communication skills - written, spoken and graphical

In Key Stage 3 all of our pupils in Saint Catherine’s follow the Technology and Design programme of study and from september 2006 we will be a pilot school for the for the 'new' curriculum in year 8. Interest in the subject continues to grow. There is an increasingly strong uptake of the subject at Key Stage 4 to the extent that an extra class has been formed to cope with the demand.

The subject is also be available at AS/A2 level.
