 Heritage and Horizon, first published in 1986 is the policy document which outlines Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat’s values. Five key elements or “goals” have been identified by the Sacred Heart Network. They are faith, character, intellect, community and social concern. The values expressed by these five goals were those which had been fundamental to Sacred Heart Education since its beginnings in Saint Madeleine Sophie’s day.
At the launch, Sister Aideen Kinlen said: “We wish to formulate the philosophy of Sacred Heart Education anew and to strengthen the bonds between our schools in a more structured way. This second edition of Heritage and Horizon aims at expressing the values which Sacred Heart Schools wish to promote, targets they set themselves, characteristics which identify us as belonging to a common family. This document encapsulates our vision for the future. In this second edition of Heritage and Horizon, we express for the schools in our own province (Irish–Scottish province) our key values and aims, which we call GOALS.” |
