SIXTH FORM

The growth of the Sixth Form in Saint Catherine's since 1973 has been significant and it now numbers 220 students. The following courses of study are available in Sixth Form:

Vocational programmes presently being offered:

  • GNVQ Intermediate Health and Social Care
  • Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education in Business
  • Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education in Health and Social Care
(Double Award - equivalent to 2 'A' levels)


  • Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education in ICT
  • Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education in Business
  • Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education in Health and Social Care
(Single Award - equivalent to 1 'A' level)


  • Advanced Subsidiary Vocational Certificate in Education in Business
  • Advanced Subsidiary Vocational Certificate in Education in Health and Social Care
  • Advanced Subsidiary Vocational Certificate in Education in I.C.T.
(Part Award equivalent to 1 AS)


Vocational 'A' levels and NVQ courses are delivered and assessed through a series of carefully planned projects and assignments as well as external testing. Student progress is continuously and thoroughly measured, reviewed and reported on.

The objectives of Vocational programmes are:

  • To facilitate access to degree and diploma courses at the third level of education, Universities, Colleges of Further and Higher Education etc.
  • To provide students with qualifications nationally accepted by employers.
  • To demonstrate, develop and deliver the skills needed in adult and working life and to give students the confidence to use these skills.

 

Through Consortium arrangements at Sixth Form level with Saint Patrick's Grammar School, further 'A' level subjects are available. Suitable candidates are prepared for entrance to Oxbridge Universities

Students are given a great deal of careers counselling to enable them to select the correct combination subjects in Sixth Form. Each Upper Sixth student is fully prepared for entry to university/higher education courses.
