Curriculum

Key Stage 3 (Years 8, 9 & 10) 

Year 8: The department introduces Year 8 to new skills in order to develop their competencies in ICT and Computing and to support their wok in all subjects

  • Term 1: Introduction to ICT / Using ICT in St Catherine’s, using Showbie and Google Classroom, E-Safety, using BBC Microbits
  • Term 2: Introduction to Scratch, creating animations, game-making
  • Term 3: App-Building

 

Year 9 & 10: ICT continues to augment pupil skills to support their wok across the curriculum.

    • Term 1: Introduction to ICT / Using ICT in St Catherine’s, using Showbie and Google Classroom, E-Safety, leaning coding with Hour of Code activities (Lightbot, Spritebox, etc)
    • Term 2: Introduction HTML websites and Introduction to Excel Spreadsheets
  • Term 3: Sphero Robots, Drones, App Building

 

 

GCSE (Years 11 & 12) Digital Technology: Multimedia Pathway (CCEA)

Year 11 Unit 1: Digital Technology

  • External written examination 1 hour worth 30%
  • In this unit, students explore a range of digital technologies available for data storage, manipulation, presentation and transfer. They also evaluate the importance of data security and data legislation.
  •  

Year 12 Unit 2: Digital Authoring Concepts (Multimedia Theory)

  • External written examination 1 hour 30 mins worth 40%
  • In this unit, students develop understanding of the concepts involved in the development of digital systems (e.g. websites and databases)

 

Year 12 Unit 3: Digital Authoring Practice (Multimedia Practice)

  • Controlled assessment worth 30%

In this unit, students design, develop and test digital multimedia systems (website and database)
