Key Stage 3 (Years 8, 9 & 10)


Year 8: The department introduces Year 8 to new skills in order to develop their competencies in ICT to support their work in all subjects.

 

Term 1

  • Introduction to ICT/ Using ICT in St Catherine’s Using Moodle
  • E-Safety /Internet safety-Task on E-Safety Poster, Quiz using Quizdom

Term 2

  • Research skills using the internet
  • Presentation skills
  • Task- AFL- Knowing Me

Term 3

  • Mediator
  • ICT in the news
  • Setting up E- Portfolios

 

Year 9: ICT continues to augment pupil skills to support their work across the curriculum.

Term 1

  • Photoshop- supporting CCIT Task
  • Moviemaker using Pcs/iPad

Term 2

  • Audacity working with sound- supporting CCIT English task
  • Excel- data logging- supporting CCIT Science task

Term 3

  • Desktop Publishing- supporting CCIT HE Task
  • Updating E-Portfolio

 

 
Year 10: Accreditation takes place in at least four subject areas and ICT lessons provide scaffolding to these ICT tasks.

Term 1

  • Using Spreadsheets- supporting CCIT Science task
  • Programming- Using Scratch

Term 2

  • Introduction to databases

Term 3

  • Crazytalk- Recording sound and using animation
  • E- Portfolio- Presentation of tasks completed in ICT and CCIT Tasks

 

GCSE (Years 11 & 12)

Unit 1: Tools and Applications

This unit will cover the following:

• Communications Software;

• Presentation Package;

• Information Handling Package; and

• Spreadsheet Package. 

 

Unit 1 is a controlled assessment unit. This unit is worth 30% of the overall GCSE qualification.

There are three tasks for Unit 1, which are set by CCEA. Pupils must complete all three tasks:

Task 1 Information Storage & Retrieval (i.e. Databases) will be completed before Christmas of Year 11

Task 2 Numeric Manipulation & Modelling (i.e. Spreadsheets ) will be completed before March of Year 11

Task 3 Multi-media Presentation (i.e. PowerPoint) will be completed before April of Year 11 

 

Unit 3:  Understanding ICT Systems in Everyday Life and its Implications for Individuals, Organisations, Society and the Wider World

This unit will cover the following themes:

• Knowledge of ICT Components;

• Data and Information;

• Digital Communication Methods; and

• Applications of ICT. 

 

Unit 3 is a written examination and will
be assessed by a two hour paper. Pupils sit the examination at the end of Year 12.

This unit is worth 40% of the overall
GCSE qualification.  

 

 

Unit 2: Using Multimedia and Games Technology

This unit will cover the following themes:

• Using Graphics;

• Using Digital Video and Sound;

• Games Technology; and

• Using Multimedia Assets.

 

Unit 2 is a controlled assessment unit. This unit  is worth 30% of the overall GCSE qualification

There are two tasks for Unit 2, which are set by CCEA. Pupils must complete both task:

Task 2 Games Technology (e.g. GameMaker) will be completed before Christmas of Year 12

Task 1 Using Multimedia Assets (Website development ) will be completed before April of Year  12.
