‘Spring was in the Air’ at St. Catherine’s College Spring Concert

The highly-regarded Spring Concert took place in St Catherine’s College, Armagh on Thursday, 23rd March, 2023. The concert featured musical ensembles made up of over 150 students from the school’s music departments..

A packed audience gathered at the College were treated to excellent performances from five area ensembles: the Senior Choir, the Chamber Choir, the Junior choir, the Wind Ensemble, the Traditional group, as well as performances from soloists. The concert also showcased excellent piano performances from Shauna Fields with her recital of ‘Je te laissarai de mots’ and Niambh Rafferty’s version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Freya Tiffney offered the audience a delightful performance of Chopin’s Nocturne in E flat on flute.

The audience enjoyed an eclectic range of music: there were budding star singing performances, including Darcie McKeever’s rendition of Forever Francis and Molly-Mae McParland’s performance on guitar and voice of Birdy’s Wings which genuinely caught the audience’s attention. Grace O’Connor’s version of Adele’s All I Ask was very moving. Just to add further sprinkling to the concert were Lara Conway’s expert performances of Irish jigs on banjo, Clodagh Lavery’s set of jigs on flute and Fiona Fields’ uplifting recital of the ‘Rondo’ in Mozart’s Horn Concerto in E flat. Charlotte Tiffney’s masterful and majestic performance of the Maple Leaf Rag on piano crowned the evening.

With such variety, skill and musical contrast the audience enjoyed the return of the Spring Concert in four years.
