School Council & Period Dignity Progress

Our School Council is another mechanism through which pupils’ voices can be heard. As a direct result of School Council meetings, the following changes have now been implemented to our school:

  • New water dispensers

  • Free period products in all bathrooms

  • A pupil library committee, responsible for revamping and reorganising the fiction displays

  • School-Crested Beanies to keep us warm

  • Self-defence classes, as part of PSHE

  • We improved the aesthetics of the bathroom

  • We got more, comfortable high-backed stools for the science labs

Period Dignity Progress

In 2019, a Year 12 member of our School Council lobbied a panel of politicians from all political parties in Northern Ireland on the issue of period poverty at a summit to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In 2021, we launched our Period Dignity Programme that raises awareness of all related issues to both boys and girls. And, period products are also made available to all pupils, even during school holidays. Pictured here are the Period Dignity Ambassadors for this year:
